World Running Championships Gave the Metro Its Busiest Weekend Ever
Around 60,000 runners gathered in the Danish capital over the weekend to participate in the World Championships for the One Mile, 5K, and Half Marathon distances. The influx of thousands of runners and spectators made a clear impact on the Metro, carrying 1.4 million passengers from Friday to Sunday. This surpassed the previous weekend record of 1.36 million set in December 2025.

A Historic Weekend
The high passenger volumes were particularly pronounced at stations close to the event’s central gathering points. Forum Station saw its two busiest days ever on Friday and Saturday as many participants collected race numbers in the vicinity. On Sunday, Vibenshus Runddel Station set a single-day record as the nearest station to the half marathon starting line.
In addition to a new women’s half marathon world record and a new men’s half marathon European record, the Metro set its own passenger record. Measuring Saturday and Sunday alone, the weekend also broke records with more than 910,000 journeys. The previous Friday-Sunday record of 1.36 million passengers in December 2025 was likely driven by a major Radiohead concert combined with annual Christmas markets and holiday lunches.
