Bring a book on the Metro and read together with others

On Sunday 25 October, you can join a shared reading event on the Metro. Grab your favourite book and read alongside others on a trip around the Cityringen line. All participants will receive a certificate and have the chance to win tickets to Bogforum 2026.

The Metro is not just an efficient way to get around the city quickly and easily. This Sunday, it will also become a shared space to pause, unwind and immerse yourself in literature.

As a warm-up to Bogforum, which takes place at Bella Center from 31 October to 1 November, Bogforum, Thiemers Magasin and the Metro invite you to a special edition of Read on the Metro, where we will read together in silence.

Copenhageners are used to the Metro giving them access to everything the city has to offer and more time for life – even while travelling. On a Metro where many people sit looking at their own phones, there is something lovely and a little unexpected about coming together to read our own books. This event connects the city, literature and people in a unique shared experience, with room to immerse yourself in a book

Facts about M3 Cityringen

  • M3 connects the city through 15.5 kilometres of underground tunnels.
  • The line has 17 stations.
  • A complete trip around Cityringen takes approximately 28 minutes.

A sense of community on the Metro

Although reading a book is typically something you do alone, literature has a special ability to bring us together.

“That is the very essence of Bogforum, where every year we bring tens of thousands of people together around what is otherwise a private passion. With Read on the Metro, we are briefly taking that sense of community out of the festival and down into the Metro. And there is something beautiful about it happening in the very place where so many of our visitors begin their journey to Bogforum,” says Andreas Nordkild Poulsen, Festival Director of Bogforum.

The easiest way to get to Bogforum is to take the M1 to Bella Center.

How to take part in the event on 25 October

Everyone is welcome, and all you need is a valid Metro ticket.
The programme for the day is:

9:45 am: Meet at Thiemers Magasin, with time for coffee and a croissant.
10:30 am: Welcome by author Benjamin Koppel, whose latest book is Håbets klang. Depart from Thiemers for Frederiksberg Allé Metro station.
10:45 am: Read together on the Metro for a complete trip around M3 Cityringen.
11:30 am: Finish at Thiemers with certificates and a prize draw. Two lucky winners will each receive two full-festival passes to Bogforum.

Thiemers Magasin has previously held Read on the Metro events to inspire more people to read books. Bookseller and event initiator Kris Jensen is pictured in the foreground.

Read on the Metro starts at Frederiksberg Allé Metro station, with participants reading during a complete trip around M3.

It attracts plenty of attention when so many people sit quietly reading on a Metro train at the same time.
