The Metroselskabet Board of Directors has today appointed 46-year-old Carsten Riis as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from 1 August 2022. As CEO of Metroselskabet and The Creater Copenhagen Light Rail, Carsten Riis will lead the continued development of a coherent, sustainable and modern public transport system in the Greater Copenhagen area - including operating and maintaining the existing Metro, managing the development and construction of more Metro and ensuring that the Light Rail gets off to a good start.
In connection with the change of management, Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet, says: ‘With Carsten Riis, we get a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a strong profile and many years of experience in top management. He has solid insight into important areas such as the development of the capital, digitalisation and finance and is used to working in large organisations with many different stakeholders and partners. I look forward to working with Carsten Riis, and I'm confident that with him at the helm, we will have a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who can lead, drive and develop the important projects that the organisation is responsible for.’
Carsten Riis holds a degree in Cand. Scient. Pol. and has solid experience with top management in the public sector. He comes from a position as Municipal Director in Faxe Municipality and has previously served as Director in Ballerup Municipality and also held senior positions in the City of Copenhagen, including as Director of the Technical and Environmental Administration. In his career, he has focused on infrastructure, urban development, finance and digitalisation, among other things. For Carsten Riis, the opportunity to work ambitiously with the development of the sustainable infrastructure of the future was crucial to his job change:

Carsten Riis replaces CEO Rebekka Nymark, who took on the role of acting CEO on 1 May 2022. From 1 August 2022, the Executive Board and Executive Management Group of Metroselskabet and The Creater Copenhagen Light Rail will thus consist of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carsten Riis, CEO Rebekka Nymark, CEO Erik Skotting and CEO Louise Høst.
