Havneholmen records the highest passenger growth on the M4
Since the opening of the M4 extension to Sydhavn and Valby in June 2024, the area around Havneholmen has continued to develop as an attractive location for housing, workplaces, and visitors alike. This is also reflected in the number of passengers using the metro station.
A total of 670,000 passengers have travelled on the Metro via Havneholmen in 2026, which is 22% more than in the same period last year.
When passenger numbers grow so significantly in such a short period of time, it is a clear sign that the Metro has become an integrated part of everyday life in Havneholmen. It also shows how high-quality public transport can support the development of new urban areas and make it easier to live, work, and visit the area

The Metro makes it easy
Havneholmen has become an attractive location for businesses. In 2025, a new office building, CPH Pulse, opened, while companies such as Aller Media, Pandora, and GlobalConnect have been based in Havneholmen for many years. Here, the Metro has increasingly become an important connection for both employees and visitors.
“It has become easier for our employees to get here. As a Nordic group, we also have many visitors from our neighbouring countries, and the Metro has made it much faster for them to get here from the airport and into the city,” says Annette Otto, Senior Vice President, People and Culture at GlobalConnect.
Enthusiasm about the Metro
Along the five new M4 stations, you will also find specialty shops and excellent shopping opportunities. Near Havneholmen are, among others, Supermarco, IKEA, Max, and Fisketorvet, which at the same time as the opening of the new metro station in 2024 launched a new food court, Kajen, that has attracted many visitors.
Fisketorvet’s General Manager, Kasper Spuur Buus, is enthusiastic about the more vibrant atmosphere that has followed in the wake of the Metro.
“The new metro station has made it even easier to visit Fisketorvet and Havneholmen. Accessibility is important for both customers and employees, and we see the Metro as a major part of the positive development the area is undergoing,” he says.
Connecting the city
The new M4 stations have had so many passengers that they have exceeded expectations by approximately 50%. The growing passenger numbers underline the value the Metro creates when new urban areas develop and gain strong connections to the rest of the city.
“The strong support from passengers shows that the M4 extension with new stations has hit the mark, and we are pleased that the Metro can continue to play a role in urban development in Sydhavn and Valby and help connect the city even better,” says Eva Lind.
