Facts
The M3 line is the capital's future M3 metro line, connecting Nørrebro, Frederiksberg, Vesterbro, City and Østerbro. Construction work on a total of 17 underground stations and two 15-kilometre tunnels began in 2011. The M3 line is set to open in summer 2019.
After just a few years in operation, the M3 line is expected to have doubled the Metro's passenger numbers, which last year totalled 63.5 million passengers.
Metroselskabet has just requested permission to extend working hours at two construction sites. At Østerport and Copenhagen Central Station, pedestrian tunnels will be built so that passengers can easily and quickly get to and from the newly built metro stations and the existing stations from which they can take regional and S-trains.
The Metroselskabet wants to be able to extend working hours during the period from 1 November 2018 to 1 May 2019. The extended working hours will help ensure that the schedule can be met so that the M3 line can open as planned and the work on the pedestrian tunnels does not delay the opening.
‘We and our contractors are fully focused on ensuring that M3 line can open its doors to passengers next summer. We have always known that the work on the listed station buildings at Østerport and Copenhagen Central Station requires great care and accuracy. But we now realise that the task of connecting the new and old stations in a way that is safe for the buildings requires more working hours. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the working hours at the two stations so that the M3 line can open as planned,’ says Jens Kjærgård, Project Director at Metroselskabet.
If Metroselskabet is granted permission to extend the working hours from 1 November 2018 to 1 May 2019, the Neighbourhood Package Order will once again become relevant, and neighbours will be eligible for compensation if noise levels outside normal working hours are calculated to be at levels that qualify for compensation under the Neighbourhood Package Order. The calculation of the expected noise levels is done in connection with the preparation of the EIA report, which is done in September/October.

Future Operation and Maintenance of Copenhagen Metro Sent Out for Tender
In 2027, Metroselskabet's current contract with the operator for the operation and maintenance of the four metro lines M1-M4 in Copenhagen expires. The task has therefore been sent out for an EU tender to establish a new contract that will ensure continued high stability and quality in operations.

Metro stations get Danish pronunciation: No more Nuh-rah-broh and Fre-duh-rikz-berg
The English voice in the Metro previously announced the names of the metro stations in English, so Frederiksberg, for example, became Fre-duh-rikz-berg. At the request of tourists and international residents, these are now being changed to Danish.
