Metro set several passenger records in 2023

Posted: 30. januar 2024
2023 was a record-breaking year for the Metro. There were both monthly records and a record for the whole of 2023. 120 million passengers travelled on the Metro in 2023, which is the highest number of passengers in one year in the Metro's history.

The entire Metro network saw more passengers in 2023, and several records were broken again during 2023. Most notable, however, is the total number of passengers for 2023, with as many as 120 million passengers using the Metro:

‘This is a figure we are very proud of. We are happy that so many people choose to use the Metro for their daily journey around the capital, but we are also confident that the number of passengers can be even higher. We will continue to work towards this and continue to ensure sustainable and timely public transport for everyone in the capital,’ says Rebekka Nymark, CEO of Metroselskabet.

Several records

The first record was set in March, when the M3 and M4 lines reached five million passengers in one month for the first time.

Another record came in November, when the entire metro network carried 11 million passengers in one month for the first time in its 20-year history:

This shows that the new M3 and M4 lines are being used more and more. There is still a lot of potential and therefore more records ahead of us. Together with walking and cycling, the Metro is the most attractive and climate-friendly transport option in the capital. The Metro has grown, and therefore the use of the Metro by citizens and visitors to the city should also increase significantly in these years,’ says Rebekka Nymark.

M4 to Sydhavn opens this summer

This summer, Metroselskabet will be ready with the new line - M4 to Sydhavn:

‘Despite many challenges such as Covid-19 and instability, we are ready with the next metro line, M4 to Sydhavn. With five new stations; the new København Syd, Mozarts Plads, Sluseholmen, Enghave Brygge and Havneholmen, we make the journey time shorter and the city bigger. We look forward to opening the stations this summer,’ says Rebekka Nymark, CEO of Metroselskabet.
