Passenger numbers on the Metro
How to count metro passengers
The Metro's automatic counting system means that all passengers are counted at the entrance to the Metro stations. Infrared scanners installed at stairs and lifts can recognise the head/shoulder area of a person and distinguish it from other objects. The system is not accurate enough to recognise specific people, just that they are human.
In 2017, Metroselskabet switched to a new counting system. Passenger numbers from 2017 can therefore not be directly compared to previous years.

Note: The total number of passengers is the sum of M1/M2 and M3/M4 passengers, i.e. transfers between M1/M2 and M3/M4 have not been taken into account. The M3 line opened on 29 September 2019, while the M4 Nordhavn opened on 28 March 2020. From 11 March 2020 to February 2022, restrictions have been in place for longer periods due to coronavirus. coronavirus, which has had a significant impact on passenger numbers.
