News from the Board
From the Board meeting on March 27, 2026

In February, the Metro recorded 11.8 million passengers, which is 8.5% above budget. Year-over-year, passenger growth stands at 8.2% compared to 2025. Part of the increase can be attributed to the very cold winter weather in January and February.

On the M3/M4 lines, both overall operational reliability and reliability during rush hour were very high in February and have not been this high since July 2023. Every day of the month had an operational reliability of over 99%. Operations on the M1/M2 lines, however, faced challenges in February, particularly during rush hour. Snowy weather conditions and challenges with fewer trains available than planned impacted capacity, resulting in an overall operational reliability of 98.1% and 95% during rush hour.

The Board was briefed on the 3xR program, which involves the replacement of trains, the signaling system, and central technical systems on the M1/M2 lines. The program is the largest reinvestment in the Metro’s history and marks a strategic shift from a primary focus on new construction to systematic reinvestment in existing infrastructure.

The purpose of the program is to ensure high operational reliability, continued high passenger satisfaction, and a sustainable investment profile through 2035–2038, within the framework of the long-term budget.

“The program is a necessary investment in the Metro’s future. We must ensure that we can deliver the same high operational reliability and passenger experience for many years to come without placing unnecessary strain on the budget. This requires that we work strategically with reinvestments, think long-term, and maintain a focus on operations, sustainability, and value for passengers,” says Tommy Ahlers, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.

Finally, the Board received an update on Metroselskabet’s contingency planning efforts, with cybersecurity, climate resilience, and physical security as key focus areas for 2026–2027.
