Copenhagen South

What are we building at Copenhagen South?

In the future, Copenhagen South will become a national transport hub, acting as a new gateway in and out of the capital and with a completely new neighbourhood.

Therefore, several construction projects are currently underway at Copenhagen South, even though the metro station is completed and in operation.

Pedestrian tunnel and Øresund platforms

Pedestrian tunnel under the tracks
In 2023, we started building a new pedestrian tunnel under the tracks. It will connect Følager with the transfer area, making it easier to get to the Metro and other travel options from the area south of Copenhagen South, where Valby Idrætspark, Hafnia Hallen and Valby Stadium are located.

The pedestrian tunnel will also provide access to the new Øresund platforms. We expect to open the pedestrian tunnel in the second half of 2025.

Øresund platforms
Today, the Øresund tracks are used for freight transport, but with new platforms at the Øresund tracks, passenger trains will have the opportunity to stop at Copenhagen South, where it is easy to change to the Metro, S-trains, other trains and buses.

We are building the Øresund platforms on behalf of Banedanmark, and we expect to hand over the completed platforms to Banedanmark in the latter half of 2025.

Stairs and Elevator to the Køge Bugt Line

In the spring of 2025, we began constructing a new staircase and elevator from the interchange area to track 1 of the Køge Bugt Line.

The new staircase and elevator, which stops at all three levels – the interchange area, street level, and the platform at track 1 – will become part of the interchange area, making it even easier in the future to switch between all modes of transport at Copenhagen South via the interchange area that connects the station.

The new staircase and elevators are being built just south of the Køge Bugt Line between the Øresund tracks and the Copenhagen-Ringsted line, where work is taking place in a smaller area extending from the previous construction site at Strømmen. The staircase and elevator are expected to be operational in the spring of 2026.

New Station Forecourt at the Følager Path

In late summer 2025, we will begin constructing a small station forecourt in the area around the new pedestrian tunnel under the tracks at Følager.

The new station forecourt is the first thing you encounter when you come off the path from Følager to Copenhagen South, and here the area will be equipped with new paving, a new path, bicycle parking, and planting, as well as a new elevator to track 1 of the Køge Bugt Line.

The station forecourt is expected to be operational at the beginning of 2026.

Noise and compensation

Noise and compensation

Unique to the Metro construction project, some parts of the construction allow for compensation to neighbours according to a fixed set of rules.
