News from the board meeting

At the meeting, the board was given an update on Metro operations and the latest measures taken by the authorities that affect public transport. With the wider reopening of society on June 14, the requirement to wear face masks in public was lifted – except on public transport. Here, the requirement has been relaxed so that seated passengers and passengers staying at stations and platforms are exempt from wearing face masks. According to the Ministry of Transport, the face mask requirement will be completely removed by September 1 at the latest, while the social distancing requirement will be lifted on August 1, 2021.

"With the latest announcements from the authorities, it will again be possible to travel on full trains in the Metro after the summer holidays. Currently, passenger numbers are at approximately 70 percent of normal levels. In August, commuters and other frequent passengers are expected to return to work or study in person, and a commercial effort will therefore aim to win customers back to public transport and increase travel on the Metro," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.

At the meeting, the board was also briefed on Metroselskabet's work to reduce noise pollution from Metro trains. Unfortunately, over the past six months, the company has seen an increase in the measured vibration level from Metro operations, as well as a growing number of neighbors who are bothered by noise. With external consulting assistance, the company now believes it has found a significant cause for the increase in vibration levels and has implemented initiatives that have reduced the levels in recent weeks.

The situation continues to be closely monitored in order to assess whether the lower vibration levels are stable. In addition, a number of tests and analyses are underway that may further reduce the level. Over the summer, a total of three tests will be carried out on changes in rail grinding, rail inclination, and rail lubrication, which will have a minor impact on nighttime operations on the M3 Cityringen. The results of these tests will be analyzed and presented in September.
