Preparatory Works for the New M5 Line at Copenhagen Central Station

Soon, the first utility relocations will begin at Copenhagen Central Station. These preparatory works will make space for the later construction of the M5 metro line.

We expect to welcome you on the very first ride of the M5 in 2036 – the Capital’s new metro line.

In its first phase, M5 will have six stations, including one at Copenhagen Central Station. The line will connect both new and existing districts, helping the Metro meet the growing passenger demand well into the future.

Work begins before construction

The main construction of the M5 will not start for a few years. However, before we can build the metro itself, several preparatory works need to be carried out. The first of these will soon begin in your area.

Relocating pipes and cables

Beneath the streets is a dense network of utilities – water pipes, sewers, electricity cables, internet connections, district heating, traffic signal wiring, and more.

To make space for the new metro, some of these will need to be moved. This work will be carried out by the individual utility companies that own them.

Over the coming years, you may see different utility companies working in your neighbourhood. The work will take place in various locations and at different times, moving around within the area.

Information about individual works

Each utility company will keep you informed about their specific activities – especially if there will be temporary interruptions to water, heating, electricity, or internet, if your access routes change or if work takes place outside normal working hours.

If you have questions about a specific activity, please contact the relevant utility company directly – for example HOFOR, Radius, TDC, or others.
