The purpose of these investigations is to clarify geological conditions and groundwater conditions around the areas where the future stations, shafts, and tunnels are expected to be located.
Two Types of Preliminary Investigations
The preliminary investigations consist of two types of studies: first, a test drilling operation is carried out, followed by pumping tests. These two types of investigations require different equipment, etc., so when the test drilling is completed, the drilling rig is transported away, and subsequently, the equipment needed for the pumping test arrives.
We naturally strive to conduct both investigations immediately following each other, but occasionally there may be a short period between the two types of preliminary investigations, during which it may appear as if we are finished but have not yet removed the fences. The areas are fenced off for your and the employees' safety.
What Does It Mean for You?
Our drilling contractor typically works on weekdays from 7 AM to 6 PM, and during the work, you may experience minor noise disturbances—especially during the test drilling. During the pumping test, it may be necessary to supply the pumps with power from a generator. Each preliminary investigation typically takes two to four weeks.
The drillings are conducted to depths between 30 and 50 meters, and each drilling concludes with a well cover, under which our measuring equipment to monitor groundwater levels is placed. We will be monitoring the groundwater for the next approximately three years.
