When Kasper Dalby and Sophia Okman got married, the CPH Sprint bike race disrupted their transportation plans from the church to the reception—but then the entire party took the Metro instead.

It's not every day that a bride and groom in tuxedo and dress and 60 party-loving guests hop on the Metro, but when Kasper Dalby, 47, and Sophia Okman, 49, said "I do" in church on June 21, they had to change their transportation plans at the last minute.

"Our wedding was supposed to be a party, so we had arranged for a party bus to transport us and our guests from Sankt Jacobs Church in Østerbro to Bredgade, where the party was to be held – but then we found out that the entire city was blocked off due to the CPH Sprint bicycle race," says Kasper Dalby.

The bride and groom therefore shortened the trip in the party bus, so that the party was instead dropped off at Nordhavn, where they could take the Metro the last two stops to Marmorkirken.

The subway was the only way we could get there, but it ended up being a really fun part of the day. We drank champagne on the escalators and got all the guests on the same train—and then suddenly, congratulations to Kasper and Sophia on their wedding came over the loudspeakers because some of our friends had called the subway control room.

Facts about the Metro

  • The Metro runs every day, all day, all year round – even when other modes of transport are not operating.
  • There are two stops from Nordhavn to Marmorkirken, and the journey takes only 4 minutes.
  • A Metro train can carry 280-306 passengers, so all 60 wedding guests traveled on the same train.

The guests are still talking about it

At Metroselskabet, commercial manager Eva Lind is pleased that the Metro got the bride and groom and their guests there quickly and efficiently when traffic was problematic.

"That is, of course, the Metro's primary task. The fact that they also had a good experience along the way is just wonderful. It shows that the Metro is not only a form of transport, but also a place where new shared experiences can arise," says Eva Lind, commercial director at Metroselskabet.

Right now, the bride and groom are on their honeymoon in Sardinia, Italy, where they are enjoying each other's company and the fond memories of their wedding, in which the Metro played a bigger role than expected.

"We only traveled two stops, but we really got a lot out of the trip. Everyone thought it was really fun, and our guests are still talking about it," says Kasper Dalby.
