The M3 line remains on track to open its doors to passengers next summer. A major milestone has been reached, creating the basis for accelerated testing of the trains and technical systems throughout the M3 line. The tests are a prerequisite for the M3 line to be safety approved.
‘We have passed an important milestone, so we can now focus more on Ansaldo STS' tests and the subsequent safety approval. The M3 line is a mega project where there will be risks to be managed right up to the opening. A lot of attention is still being paid to the architectural work, and there is also a lot of work ahead to complete the many tests of the trains and the complicated technical systems on the M3 line, which is a prerequisite for the M3 line to be approved to run with passengers. There is still a lot of work ahead of us,’ says Technical Director Erik Skotting.
Increased staffing
The main focus point for the progress of the construction work continues to be the architectural work, including the installation of wall panelling, skylights, flooring and lighting. The main contractor Copenhagen Metro Team (CMT) has increased the number of workers in this area, so approximately 500 people are currently working on the architectural design of the stations.
The mechanical and electrical work is close to completion, so this risk is virtually eliminated. However, a large number of tests of the trains and technical systems await, which are a prerequisite for the M3 line to receive safety approval.
Metroselskabet will report monthly on the progress of the M3 line until it opens next summer. Only when The Company has the final safety approval from the authorities to operate with passengers can we actually set an opening date.
