2017 in bullet points
- 63.5 million passengers travelled on the Metro in 2017. This continues the stable passenger growth in the Metro, with around 4 per cent compared to 2016.
- Metroselskabet made a profit of DKK 320 million. This is DKK 101 million better than budgeted.
- The Metro's operator ensured a high operational stability of 99.2 percent overall.
- Metroselskabet's Board of Directors has decided to spend DKK 2 billion on reinvestments and capacity expansion on metro lines M1 and M2.
- The construction of the M3 line (M3) and the Nordhavn line (M4) is now in its final phase. The focus is on technical installations and the completion of stations/station sites.
Passenger growth in the Metro continued in 2017, and the many passengers create congestion in the Metro.
Especially on the line to/from Forum to Islands Brygge and Amagerbro, there is congestion during rush hour. Therefore, the Metroselskabet board has decided to invest DKK 2 billion in a plan to expand capacity on the M1 and M2 metro lines over the coming years.
‘Our passengers have ensured stable growth in 2017, and we are of course grateful for that. But to make room for even more passengers in the coming years, we are now initiating a plan to future-proof the M1 and M2 by, among other things, purchasing more trains,’ says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.
In addition to the purchase of new trains, which will allow more trains to run during rush hour, the existing trains will undergo extra maintenance and the seating arrangement will be changed.
Metro to Sydhavn on the way
The M3 line metro construction is now in its final phase, with the stations being completed underground while preparations are being made to fit out station spaces at street level. The train contractor is already test running on the western part of the M3 line, and the track laying is almost complete.
In 2017, preparations were also made for a new metro construction project when the contract negotiations for the Sydhavn Metro were finalised and the winners selected. Construction work will begin during 2018.
Debt repayment proceeding according to plan
In parallel with the coming years' investments in capacity expansion, Metroselskabet's debt is being paid off according to plan, so Metroselskabet expects to be debt-free in 2065.
‘Metroselskabet makes long-term investments and takes out large loans. It is therefore crucial that The Company follows a long-term plan and regularly repays its debt. The Company is in a healthy financial position,’ says Jørn Neergaard Larsen
