New neighbourhoods on the metro network
On Sunday 3 March, Metroselskabet will open the doors to the metro construction site at the future Mozarts Plads station so that neighbours and interested parties can see how far the extension of the M4 metro line towards Sydhavn and Valby has come. The line is expected to open this summer with five new stations and will create brand new connections between the capital's neighbourhoods and the rest of the country.
‘It will be great to be able to invite the residents of Sydhavn and other interested parties down to see and feel what we have been working on for so long. When the Metro opens this summer, Sydhavn and Valby will become part of the metro network, so even more Copenhageners will be able to get around the city faster and greener. Especially the residents around Mozarts Plads have been patiently waiting to get their space back, and I look forward to seeing how the Metro and the new station squares will become a vibrant part of the neighbourhood in the future,’ says Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Lord Mayor of the City of Copenhagen.
Meet the local artist behind the work
On the day, part of the construction site will be opened on the surface and underground in the future station. Lord Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen will speak at 2pm, and visitors can also meet local artist Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen, who will talk about his artwork, which is an integral part of the stations' architecture and design. The Metroselskabet's architects will also talk about the design of the stations, and visitors can learn more about the future metro line over a cup of coffee and a cake.
Please note that access to the underground station requires you to be at least 110 cm tall and wear sensible, closed shoes (no sandals). Please note that Mozarts Plads is still a construction site and therefore lifts and escalators are not available for the event.
We recommend walking, cycling or public transport to Mozarts Plads. Bus numbers 7A, 9A and 18 stop at Mozarts Plads, and the two closest S-train stations are Sjælør and Sydhavn. There is limited parking in the area around Mozarts Plads. Find your journey on rejseplanen.dk.
