New initiatives to make Metroselskabet smarter about resource consumption
Metroselskabet has been working for some time to achieve its ambition of reducing the climate footprint of new metro lines by 50%, and now the time has come to focus on another important sustainability aspect of the company's business, namely the use of materials. As a construction company, Metroselskabet consumes large quantities of natural resources such as gravel, sand, wood, metals, and granite, many of which are non-renewable. The company therefore has a strong desire to reduce, reuse, or recycle more of these materials.
The company is therefore now launching three focus areas with associated initiatives, which will initially pave the way for more knowledge in this area:
- Focus area 1: Design and construction should enable more efficient use of resources in the maintenance phase.
- Focus area 2: Materials and waste must be handled in a way that preserves the quality of the materials, also in relation to reuse.
- Focus area 3: Resources, especially critical and scarce ones, must be minimized and recycled.
The focus areas are broken down into five initiatives, which initially involve launching analyses to provide the company with new knowledge in this area. It is hoped that the initiatives will then lead to new solutions for material use that Metroselskabet can use in its work on upcoming major reinvestment projects and metro projects such as M4 to Ydre Nordhavn and M5.
