Another one of the 34 original trains on the M1/M2 lines is being sent to Holland for modernization.

The project includes:

  • Changing the seating layout in the train
  • Replacing doors
  • Installing new flooring
  • Painting the interior
  • Corrosion-treat, paint, and apply foil to the exterior of the train
  • Inspect, corrosion-treat, and paint the train’s underframe

Metroselskabet is in the process of renovating the oldest trains in the fleet, and after a thorough inspection and work on the first train, it is now time to send another train off to be modernized.

On Wednesday, October 15, a truck will arrive at the control and maintenance center for M1/M2 at Vestamager, and on Thursday, October 16, the second train will be transported to Alstom’s workshop in Rotterdam.

Here, Alstom will refurbish the trains, which may include repainting panels, installing new floors, and replacing doors. The aim is to ensure the Metro’s continued high operational reliability, improve the passenger experience, and make the trains easier to maintain while keeping their high safety standards. Anything that can be reused will be salvaged as spare parts for the remaining fleet.

While the modernization is underway, passengers will still enjoy the same high capacity and stable operations, thanks to newly purchased trains that have already been put into daily service.

Once the second train has also been inspected, the first two trains will serve as a reference for the modernization work on the remaining 32. The trains will be returned to Copenhagen as they are completed at the Rotterdam workshop.
