News from the board meeting

At the meeting, the board was informed that on September 25, the Danish Transport, Construction and Housing Authority gave its final approval for the Cityringen to carry passengers. The permit comes after many thousands of tests of the driverless trains and the new system. Based on extensive documentation – including the preparation of 1.4 million documents – the authorities have assessed that the basis for safety approval is in order.

"The authorities' safety approval concludes many years of work to obtain documentation for a driverless system. The standards for obtaining safety approval are very high, and we would like to express our gratitude for the professional cooperation we have had with the authorities and the independent assessor. The permit is the last important milestone, and we can now open the Cityringen as planned on Sunday and welcome all the many thousands of new customers to the new system," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.

The permit is being granted as the last step immediately before opening. It is normal practice for issued approvals and permits to contain a number of conditions that must be met before passenger service begins and after passenger service has commenced. Metroselskabet is focused on fulfilling these conditions, and therefore, during the initial period, there will be extra staffing at Cityringen stations.

At the meeting, the board was also briefed on the status of Cityringen, which is the penultimate in the series. The final status of Cityringen will be given at the board meeting in October. The board will subsequently be kept informed about the completion of the remaining outstanding issues.

In addition, the board discussed the disruptions to the operation of the M3 Cityringen that are expected as a result of testing the metro to Nordhavnen and “teething problems” in the Cityringen.
