News from the board meeting

Posted: 29. oktober 2021

At the meeting, the board received a status update on the development of Metro passenger numbers. In September 2021, passenger numbers stood at 8.4 million, which means that the Metro has regained 80% of its passengers since the shutdown in connection with COVID-19.

"Metroselskabet is continuously monitoring how quickly and to what extent Metro customers are returning after COVID-19. Although the overall trend is positive, commuting in society, for example, remains lower than before COVID-19, with approximately 10% fewer commuters. This naturally has an impact on passenger numbers, although it is still too early to conclude on the long-term effects of the shutdown," says Metroselskabet's chairman, Jørn Neergaard Larsen.

The board also approved the launch of new reinvestment projects in 2022-2025.

A significant part of Metroselskabet's reinvestments relates to, among other things, the renovation of the existing train fleet and the replacement of the driverless control system. Among other things, the company has purchased eight new trains, which will help to increase the capacity of the metro so that future demand for metro travel can be met. The new trains are expected to be ready for passenger service at the end of 2021. After that, the capacity of the system can be increased by adding extra trains during rush hour in addition to the current maximum of 31 trains.
