At the meeting, the Board discussed the overall framework for Metroselskabet's 2021 budget with a view to second reading at the Board meeting in December 2020. In the draft budget, the company has chosen to omit new initiatives due to the uncertainty associated with the current COVID-19 situation. The budget is therefore based on the assumption that the direct consequences of COVID-19 cannot be disregarded until the end of 2021. Due to the uncertainty associated with the ongoing pandemic, subsequent adjustments to the budget must therefore be expected.
The Metro must also continue to operate with a focus on the restrictions this entails and with great attention to customer safety and security. Customers are still encouraged to keep their distance, remember to wear face masks, and comply with the authorities' requirements and recommendations in general. In addition, customers are encouraged to travel outside rush hour if possible. Passenger numbers on the Metro remain significantly below normal for the season.
The Board of Directors was also informed that a significant number of improvements, tests, and updates are currently being carried out on M1-M4, which unfortunately have a negative impact on operations and cause inconvenience to customers. In weeks 47 and 49, there were several days when the entire M3 Cityringen and M4 Nordhavn lines were closed in the evening and at night. In this connection, Metro buses were deployed, and Metroselskabet provided customers with ongoing information in order to create understanding for the inconvenience they may experience.
"The problems that have arisen in connection with the necessary improvement and maintenance work on the metro have been handled according to plan and with a strong focus on causing as little inconvenience as possible to passengers. The rails on the M3 Cityringen have now been ground, and mobile coverage has been secured on the section from Orientkaj to Marmorkirken. In the coming period, work will be done to roll out mobile coverage across the entire Cityringen," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.
There are still a few tests of the new trains for M1/M2 to be carried out before the end of the year. We have managed to shorten the period during which the tests will take place, so that they will now start at midnight instead of 8 p.m. as originally planned. This will limit the impact on customers.
