At the meeting, the board received a presentation on how Metroselskabet will work to bring customers back after society reopens. The board decided on a plan of action to ensure that customers can return to the Metro quickly and safely, in a manner that is consistent with the reopening of society and the needs of customers.
"It is gratifying that we are now in a situation where the capital is reopening and everyday life is slowly returning to normal. We have a very important task in ensuring that Metro customers return. Among other things, we have a special task in ensuring that customers feel safe traveling on the Metro, so that they choose the Metro as a fast and sustainable form of transport in their everyday lives," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.
At the meeting, the board also received a review of how the COVID-19 situation is affecting Metro operations. The gradual reopening of society is also noticeable in the Metro, where passenger numbers are increasing. As there are still restrictions on how many people can travel on the Metro, this is not without its challenges. Especially during rush hour at Lergravsparken, Amagerbro Station, Kongens Nytorv, Nørreport, and Christianshavn, queues can form before customers can board the Metro. Extra staff and close daily monitoring will ensure that the situation is handled in a controlled and safe manner.
In addition, the Board was informed about the progress at Sydhavn, which has also been challenged by a number of additional requirements and restrictions as a result of COVID-19, including quarantine rules and frequent testing. Despite the extra challenges this poses in terms of planning and carrying out daily work, construction has been kept going, but there is a risk that this will entail additional costs. The project is approaching a crucial milestone, with tunnel drilling now complete. One of the tunnel boring machines has finished, so there is now a connection between M4 Sydhavn and M3 Cityringen. Tunnel work is expected to be completed in both tunnels by the end of April.
