In May, Metroselskabet announced that the opening date for Cityringen would have to be postponed by two months, from the end of July to the end of September. The company also announced that a more precise opening date would be announced in June. Today, the board of directors discussed the company's status regarding the progress of the completion of the Cityringen and the risks associated with it, and as a result, the board decided that the opening date will be Sunday, September 29, 2019.
"The board has been presented with the status of the completion of the Cityringen, and we are now very close to being able to open the doors to a brand new and unified metro network in the capital. In the coming months, the final tests and regulatory approval must be in place so that we can open to passengers," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.
However, the date is subject to final approval from the authorities to carry passengers. The company believes that this schedule is realistic. However, it requires all parties to deliver an effective and coordinated effort. In August, Metroselskabet will present the program for the opening day itself.
At the meeting, the board also received a review of an analysis conducted by Metroselskabet of the possibility of extending a high-quality public transport solution from Ny Ellebjerg Station to Hvidovre and Bispebjerg hospitals. The analysis was initiated in connection with the agreement on financing an underground metro station at Ny Ellebjerg in 2016.
The analysis has now been completed, and a report is available that outlines the possibilities and potential of extending high-quality public transport from Ny Ellebjerg. The report has been discussed politically in the municipalities behind the study, and a mandate has been given for further discussions.
