At the meeting, the board received a status report on preliminary passenger numbers for December. The figures show that passenger numbers on the M3 Cityringen line continue to grow, and that this growth is having a positive impact on the M1 and M2 lines. Passenger numbers remain at around 1 million passengers per week on the M3 line. In total, the metro (M1, M2, and M3) carried just under 10 million passengers in December, of which just under 4 million were on M3 alone.
"The passenger figures show that there is great interest in traveling on the Cityringen, and that there has also been a nice growth in the number of customers on M1 and M2. This is, of course, very positive. In 2020, we will focus on ensuring that commuters benefit from the system," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.
The board was also briefed on Metroselskabet's work to reduce noise from trains on the Cityringen. Approximately 15,000 people live above the Cityringen. Before the rails were ground, there were approximately 300 complaints about noise from neighbors along the route. After the rail grinding was completed, information was sent out to the neighbors, and subsequently the company received 168 inquiries about continued nuisance. The number of complaints is thus moving in the right direction.
In the coming period, the company will take measurements at some of the neighbors who continue to feel disturbed by noise from the trains. The company will then look at how various measures can be taken to further reduce the noise. All measurements taken so far are below the limit value.
Finally, the board received a status update on the process and plan for the opening of the new metro line to Nordhavn. An opening date will be announced after the turn of the year. The test phase on M4 Nordhavnen will affect the Cityringen main line (M3) and will require M3 to be closed to passengers for two weeks from mid-January. During this period, Metroselskabet will deploy metro buses and focus heavily on informing and assisting customers as best as possible.
