At the meeting, the Board was given an update on the consequences of the new requirements from the authorities regarding face masks on public transport, which were reintroduced on November 29, 2021. In general, passengers have responded positively to the reintroduction of the requirement, and only a minority are not wearing face masks.
The Board of Directors was also briefed on the development in Metro passenger numbers. In November 2021, passenger numbers stood at 8.9 million. The Metro is still missing approximately 20% of the expected number of passengers following the shutdown in connection with COVID-19.
"Metro passenger numbers remain below expectations in relation to the long-term budget, and as we approach the end of the year, we are entering a period in which restrictions and limitations are likely to continue. For our passengers, it remains crucial that they can get to work and around the city safely using the Metro. I am proud of how our employees are handling the situation and of our passengers' good behavior. This helps us in our efforts to win back customers and restore growth," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of Metroselskabet.
The board also approved Metroselskabet's strategy for occupational health and safety efforts in 2022 and 2023. The initiative is a further development of the current occupational health and safety efforts and is based on the vision of Safety on the Right Track, which was adopted in October 2017. Since January 2018, the vision has been implemented through two-year strategy periods.
"In recent years, significant progress has been made in how safety is managed at Metroselskabet. This progress includes increased awareness among key employees, closer cooperation with contractors, and strengthened competencies in relation to risk management and accident prevention. This is also clearly evident from the latest safety culture survey at Metroselskabet from June 2021. Here, employees responded across the board that they feel, to a very high or high degree, that their safety and that of their colleagues is taken seriously," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen.
Finally, the Board of Directors approved Metroselskabet's selected CSR focus areas for 2022, which include working environment, safety and learning, and climate action, as well as the reporting on target achievement for 2021.
