At the meeting, the board received a status update on the work to complete the City Ring. After the contractor CMT failed to achieve the so-called RHO milestone, which was to be achieved at the end of March, the company is now working with the two contractors, CMT and Hitachi Rail STS, to analyze the possibility of further optimizing the completion of the remaining work so that the overall schedule can be maintained. Metroselskabet still expects to be able to announce an opening date for the Cityringen in June.
"If we do not succeed in optimising the final work, failure to achieve the milestone will delay the Cityringen. Even though it is only minor things that are missing, there is very little time left to complete the final tasks. We still believe that it is possible to open within the schedule, but it will require a major and coordinated effort by all parties if this is to succeed," says Jørn Neergaard Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Metroselskabet.
At the meeting, the board approved the introduction of uniform guidelines throughout the year for bringing bicycles on the metro. This means that the current arrangement, whereby bicycles are allowed on the metro around the clock in June, July, and August, will cease to apply from summer 2019. The reason for the decision is a general increase in passenger numbers during the summer months, meaning that the decline in passenger numbers during the summer months that was previously seen is no longer occurring. A bicycle also takes up the same amount of space as five passengers, and bicycles carried on the metro affect the flow of passengers getting on and off.
